How to read a formula
A major chord is 0, 4, 7. That means the root, the note four semitones above it, and the note seven semitones above it. Count every key, black and white.
Minor is 0, 3, 7. Only the middle number changed, by one, and that is the whole difference between the two moods. There is more on why that one semitone does so much on the major and minor page, and on how chords are built up in thirds on chords.
